Meet the founder

Bilingual, self-taught and intuitive, Olivier Cappaert grew up in the suburbs of Paris and began working at an early age. He’s worked as a bike messenger, in textiles in the infamous Sentier district of Paris, as a salesman for a web agency, as an administrator in a large American cosmetics marketing firm, and, more recently, for several French administrative organizations. What do all of these positions have in common? They were all based in fast-paced and aggressive environments, each requiring a headstrong nature, the ability to work under pressure and adapt to a variety of situations.

And adapt he did. It was his time spent working for the French administration that inspired him to tackle it from the other side of the desk by creating Excuse my French. His choice to use his skills and experience specifically to help Anglophones in France was not random. Olivier has traveled extensively in the United States and lived in London for 5 years where he learned English the hard way: getting cursed at while working at various high-profile restaurants throughout the city, known for their tense and bawdy work environments. In 2009, he married an American.

His entrepreneurial spirit is not linked to the administrative battle alone, however. Olivier’s true passion lies in the French language itself. An aspiring author, Olivier has written one novel, and has two others in the making.
